This Blog is a virtual journal of public and private stuff of my life at the moment. I have so many interests and distractions and I enjoy writing about them.
-I am first a Registered Nurse. I work with transplant patients for a company that services the US Military and I LOVE my work. Doesn’t mean it isn’t sometimes very challenging and stressful; but I still love it.
-I am fundamentally a conservative but progressive minded woman. I don’t endorse any particular party or organized religion. (I think both have way too much in common) I believe in the doctrine of doing the right thing, at the right time for anyone I can.
-I love fiber! Plain and simple. I love the feel, the smell, the appearance and the visceral pleasure of fiber of all sorts. I love to wash it, play with it, spin it into yarn/thread, weave, sew, knit, fold and manipulate it into all sorts of things.
-I enjoy computers and tech stuff. I’m studying (yeah, actual university study) programming and application design. I also enjoy working and playing in virtual worlds and the amazing opportunities it opens up to meet people from all over the world!
SEWING: This is a big category for me. I enjoy sewing. I sew a LOT of different things in a lot of different ways. Clothes, Doll clothes, Bags and Accessories, Craft sewing and of course Quilt sewing. Machine Sewing and Hand Sewing. Fast production type sewing and meticulous Heirloom sewing. I love to learn new techniques and revive techniques from antiquity. Mixing the two will always catch my interest.
QUILTING (and Piecing): Again, a broad topic for me. I enjoy hand quilting the blanket once the hand piecing (or machine piecing) is completed. I want to try machine quilting also. I really love wholecloth or ‘White Work’ quilts where the quilting stitches actually create the design.
Some of my piecing enjoyments include: English Paper Piecing, Applique, Illusion Blocks, Color play of all sorts, Non quilted designs that involve folded fabric methods like Cathedral Window blocks.
SPINNING AND WEAVING: I spin using treadle driven modern spinning wheels, antique hand driven great wheels and drop spindles of all sorts. I spin everything from silk to angora to wool to synthetics into any sort of yarn or thread you can imagine. My go-to though is angora or fine wool into a 2 or 3 ply DK weight yarn that I use for knitting. I do have a 8 harness loom and I do basic weaving and it’s a skill I need to grow with. I’m better with knitting needles.
HOME RENOVATION PROJECTS: I live in my own home that I purchased at an amazing price as a foreclosure. That is the interest of my life partner and his story to tell. But it has allowed me, and him, the opportunity to customize our home a bit. We always have something or other going on. Sometimes it’s cosmetic, sometimes utilitarian but I have about 2000 square feet of house and 2.5 acres of land to play with and you just never know from one day to the next!
POLITICS: I don’t want this to be a place to preach or push Politics. Yes, I have opinions and specific views. No, I don’t always want to debate those views. Sometimes I will. I’m including some of my VERY old blog pages from the early 20’s so that they are kept and available to me. Some of my views have changed, some haven’t. But I like remembering who I was at that time and examining where I am today and how I got here.
